Coalition to Restore the Eastern Wolf (CREW)

Goals

Working together, CREW participants:

  • Support efforts to advance the large-scale protection of potential wolf habitat in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada, including showing where and how habitat for key native species can be protected and connected.
  • Undertake research, education, and communications efforts to improve public awareness about wolves and the benefits of wolf recovery.
  • Establish partnerships with organizations, local stakeholders, landowners, agencies, and policymakers to take actions related to wolf recovery and protection and habitat conservation.
  • Encourage the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to complete and implement a plan that provides for a timely analysis of all factors relating to the potential for recovery of the wolf in the forests of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.
  • Promote the maintenance of the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing of the wolf and strengthening of state-level protections of wolves in the Northeast, including those related to wolves that migrate to the region on their own.
  • Develop cooperative efforts between the United States and Canada to conserve and protect existing wolf populations and facilitate movement by wolves between the two nations.
